About
Learn about the origin of Gala Life below.
Gala Life was first published in 2009
From its early beginings in Galashiels, Gala Life quickly expanded to include Clovenfords, Tweedbank and Melrose. We now cover 12,000 households in the area.
The magazine has developed its own unique style of editorial features, local updates and great recipes. With lots of popular monthly informative features and regulars such as Willie’s Wonky Computer Factory, Fitness with Alan Clinch, Border Vets and The Gala Garden, it really is a great read. Our Get Out section and What’s On Diary also means it is referred to time and again throughout the month – great news for our advertisers! We also have an on-line version accessible through this website, why not share with your friends and family who have moved away! In 2014 we celebrated our 5th birthday by opening a sister magazine in Highland Perthshire. You can view that from here. Gala Life is delivered by a local team, who work tirelessly every month to ensure each copy is hand delivered over a weekend.

A Little About willie
Publishing started as a second career for me after a public service role for 30 years. 13 years on and I have loved every minute of it. From designing adverts for start-up businesses to laying out the magazine every month and writing the computer page. We never stop but we love it. The technology is always changing and new software enables us to keep the magazines fresh and informative. We have built up some great working relationships with our advertisers and met many readers. We love working on the magazines and helping other people in business to succeed.
A Little About Debbie
I love producing Gala Life, from initial contact with new advertisers to seeing their advert in print, I get a real buzz from it. I have been working with many local businesses now for over 15 years and have a great relationship with them. If they do well then so do we! We see Gala Life as a partnership with local businesses, groups and people. Our delivery team are part of that too. I previously worked for a large company as Marketing Manager and loved the camaraderie of a very large team and organisation, but making changes was hard to achieve. Working in a very small team of just 3, means we are able to put our own stamp on things. We like to be independent and work with other individuals to achieve huge success for them too. With a degree in English Literature I’m not too short on words… as many of you will know.
